The Team KMan Bike Ride for Saturday, April 6, is a special edition wildflower viewing ride around the Bitterwater-58-Shell Creek Loop. The ride starts and ends in Shandon.
Given the absence of services in the remote area where the ride takes place, Team KMan is fortunate once again to have the generous support of Gail Vanderlinde for this ride in the badlands. Riders will be able to have food, drinks and clothing transported in Gail’s van for their use during the ride. The van will also be carrying additional water, as well as certain tools to assist in the event of mechanical problems.
The riders will gather at the park on Centre Street in Shandon at 8:45 a.m., and depart at 9:00.
There will be a nourishment and rest stop near the place where Bitterwater Road meets Highway 58. For that purpose, each rider should bring enough food and drink for his or her own individual consumption.
After the ride, many participants are expected to congregate for lunch at the Long Branch Saloon in Creston, or some other place chosen by popular vote.
For those who can’t make it for the ride from Shandon, but want to do a ride closer to home, they should meet at KMan Cycle and Run in Atascadero at 8:30 a.m., and negotiate a route among themselves for an 8:38 departure.
The Bitterwater Loop route is 71.6 miles, with 3225 feet of elevation gain. https://ridewithgps.com/routes/28842779
Weather alert: If it is raining on Saturday morning to the extent that the ride needs to be postponed or cancelled, an email will be sent out by 7:15 a.m.
