TEAM K-MAN RIDE
SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 1ST
LOCATION: K-MAN ATASCADERO
Ride Leaders: Louise and Terry
Let’s take advantage of the cooler weather and enjoy the North County! This Saturday’s ride will be a simple out and back to the top of Hare Canyon with a burrito stop in San Miguel on the way back for those who want to feast on the BEST burritos ever! While some riders have concerns about the road quality of Indian Valley Road, the payoff of riding in such a remote and beautiful area more than makes up for the rough surface.
Let’s gather at K-Man Atascadero at 8:00am for an 8:08 roll out. We will go left on El Camino, right on Curbaril, left on Santa Ysabel, right on 41, left on Templeton Road, to right on Lupine, right on El Pomar, left on Hollyhock, left on Neil Springs, to right on River (regroup). Continuing on River into Paso we will take the bike path bypass off of Navajo and then get back on River (regroup). Then it’s River all the way to right on Cross Canyon to an immediate left on Indian Valley Road (regroup) at 23.4 miles into the ride. We will then continue on Indian Valley Road for another 12 miles to the base of Hare Canyon where we will take a left and climb the 1.5 miles to the top, 37 miles into the ride. After enjoying the accomplishment and the view we will return down the hill and head back to San Miguel for burritos at mile 51.7. Drinks and snacks are also available at the Chevron station across from Dos Hermanos or the Railroad Deli on Mission Street. After refreshments riders can chose to ride home on River Road or by way of Cross Canyon/Pleasant/Estrella/Airport. The option of riding down the back side of Hare Canyon and taking the freeway back to San Miguel may be problematic due to road work on 101. Riders should come prepared with enough food and drink for the first 50 miles.
Below are some of the distance options:
As the route is an out and back, riders may pick their ride distance and simply turn around at their personally designated half-way point.
