Due to the continued closure of the Pacific Coast Highway, our traditional spring coast ride is headed in a different direction for 2018. Rather than starting in the north and heading south, we will start here and head to Santa Barbara. I am still working out some of the details, but here is the basic plan.
The date is Monday, June 4. There will be three starting points. For the over achievers who want to ride approximately 140 miles, the starting point will be in Atascadero at 6:00 AM. For those wanting to ride about 125 miles, the starting point will be the SLO Amtrak train station at 7:00 AM. For those wanting a 100 mile ride, the starting point will be the Grover Beach Amtrak train station at 8:00 AM. These starting times will get us all into Santa Barbara approximately 4:00 PM. Route details will be provided soon.
After checking-in to the hotel and cleaning up, we will gather at Santa Barbara Brewing which is directly across the street from the hotel around 5:30 – 6:00 PM.
As with the ride down, there will be three options for returning. The over achievers can ride their bikes back to Atascadero onTuesday, June 5. Other options include taking the Amtrak back later in the day on Monday (5:44 PM) or, staying in Santa Barbara on Monday night and taking the Amtrak back on Tuesday morning (11:44 AM). A block of rooms has been reserved at a substantially reduced rate at the Holiday Inn Express at 17 W Haley Street, Santa Barbara, CA Tel: 805-963-9757. The block will only be held until Wednesday, May 2. When making your reservations, you need to tell them you are with Team K-Man/Coast Ride to receive the discounted room rate.
For this ride, we will have support for transporting your small overnight/carry on size bag to Santa Barbara.
If you are interested in the Coast Ride and want to be on the email list for updates and more information, please send me an email at firstname.lastname@example.org. If you know now you will be doing the ride, please let me when you respond.
I hope you can join us for this year’s South Coast Ride.
